It was no suprise to me to find out last weekend that my No.1 motivation in life is creativity. I have The Flag Page test to thank for that little revelation! A great little test, similar to DISC, and Myers-Briggs but with more of a plain-English approach to helping you understand what it all means and how it applies to your relationships. Creativity means a lot to me and infiltrates my life every day; as a result I want to share a little piece of this puzzle with you and how God has used that test, and a challenging creative task to open some new doors for me. Today I have to share with you a totally new venture. One that, if I’m honest, I was skeptical about in the beginning.
In a staff meeting a few weeks ago I was asked to make Overland Missions promotional video for the upcoming One Tribe Missions Conference. “But I don’t know how to do professional videos, it’ll look homemade and amatuer, are you sure there’s no one else?” I bemoaned. The truth is I have no formal training in video and only started dabbling in some very simple software six months ago, never expecting to need to whip out those rudimentary skills to do anything on a grand scale. The thought of being solely responsible for Overland Missions big conference promo dealy left me feeling shaky in my ability for sure. So doing what any self-respecting Christian creative would do I took my argument to God, “You do realize I am working out of my weakness here? It won’t be good enough, I’m not ready, why can’t I play to my strengths, do the things I’m good at?” I whined. His response, “Don’t worry about your weakness, in your weakness I am strong“.
Where’ve I heard that before? He’s right, obviously. Argument over. Time to get creative. For me this task meant some divine inspiration, finding the things I can do, not trying to do the things I can’t and allowing God to show me the rest. The result of the past couple of weeks sits below these words for you to be inspired and motivated by. I hope it moves you from your comfort zone as much as it moved me by making it.
