I was on what was by some standards, an extraordinary journey, but for me it was just a trip from Walvis Bay to Rundu, Namibia. Our passports were to be mailed there with our Angolan visas. Along the way we stopped at a fuel station for diesel.
I needed to use the toilet, so I went to inquire about getting the key. The guard (whose name was Frances) who had the key stooped over to pick it up, and as he did groaned and held his back. I asked him how long his back had been hurting and how he hurt it. He told me that it had been hurting for about a week and sheepishly said that he fell over while he was “with liquor.” I laughed and asked if I could pray for his back to be healed. With an uncertainty in his eyes he said okay. After telling him a few stories of how God had healed some people in the Amazon where my wife and I had recently been working, I asked him if he believed Jesus could heal him. His “yes” was all we needed to proceed. After a simple prayer, I asked him if he felt anything different. Frances then began to move his shoulders and bend over in ways that previously would have hurt. He stood up with a surprised look on his face and kept moving around somewhat astonished that his pain was gone! I jumped on the opportunity and told him that what Jesus had done in his body he wanted to do with his life. Frances agreed that he wanted Jesus to heal his whole life, and gave his life to Jesus in front of the fuel station.
After the ladies at the register saw what happened, the abandoned their positions because they wanted prayer too!
The Bible says in Acts 10:38 “You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
Jesus is still going about doing good, but He is doing it through you and I. The point is this; God will use us wherever we are. There are countless opportunities all around us to lead someone to Christ.
As it turns out, I do speak “Frances.” The Gospel, which is the language of love found in the heart Jesus Christ translates easily. Join me in introducing the world to Jesus Christ. When they know Him, see Him and have tasted of Him, they will never want or lack anything else again.
